For many, public speaking is terrifying. For others, it’s just a fun hobby. For me, having the opportunity to stand in front of a crowd and capture their attention for a prolonged period of time is a privilege and an opportunity for business development, when done right. Over the past 7 years, when I decided to take public speaking more seriously and to make it part of my business, I’ve learned how to work the stage, so to speak, to make public speaking an additional source of revenue in my business.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • Before you begin your speaking journey, you should know what you’re talking about
  • Why selecting a few topics to become known for is way more effective than listing about 30 things you can talk about
  • Practice and preparation is key and can mean the difference between delivering a mediocre presentation and delivering a presentation that helps you secure business long after you present
  • Even if you’re serving on a panel with others, how can you best prepare?
  • Set up a speakers page either on an existing website or as an entire website dedicated to you as a speaker
  • Should you speak for free or only accept engagements that pay you?
  • What can you be doing with your slides to help provide the necessary information for attendees to know about you
  • When responding to questions
  • How can you promote an upcoming speaking engagement on social media without sounding obnoxious?
  • What is the best way to get the most out of video footage that you might have recorded while you were presenting?
  • How to find conferences to apply to speak at

The way you think about things affect how you feel and that impacts how you behave and how you show up in the world. If you’re like me, you might have a lot of negative self-talk that feels limiting. If only we knew how to change our mindset, we could probably unlock a whole new level of amazingness, right? Well, let’s undo some mindset damage, shall we?

My guest today is Master Certified Life Coach, former women’s rights lawyer, and host of the popular podcast, Unf*ck Your Brain, Kara Loewentheil. Kara holds a B.A. from Yale and a J.D. from Harvard Law. She helps women break through their confidence issues and negative self-talk and finally put into action their true desires. Her work isn’t based on manifestation and law of attraction bs, it’s rooted in cognitive psychology-based techniques and feminist theory.

Kara shares how we can decipher between helpful and unhelpful thoughts, what the two steps are to begin retraining our brains, why “fake it til you make it” is utter crap, and how to assess our thoughts throughout the day.

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day this week (and yes, we realize this is a totally made up “holiday”), we thought it’d be fun to talk about love and relationships as a lawyer. Lawyers are busy and often work long hours so finding time to date or nurture a loving relationship can often be difficult.

Joining me today is Dr. Sharon Cohen, relationship and love consultant.  She received her PhD from the University of Texas and has been helping busy professionals have committed and fulfilling relationships.

Dr. Cohen shares why it’s important for women to tap into their inner energy when seeking a partner, how you can reignite the spark in a long-term relationship, and how to make time for your loved ones.
